Here at City Physio we specialise in musculo-skeletal conditions. We see sports injury from recreational to elite athletes, neck and back pain, hip problems, shoulder and elbow problems, knee pain, foot and ankle problems, and also work closely with a number of local consultants to ensure the speedy recovery of their patients following surgery.

Back pain

Back pain will affect most people at some point in their lifetime. The majority of episodes of low back pain will resolve themselves and will require no more treatment than some painkillers and a little time, however some episodes of back pain last significantly longer or are so painful that seeking professional help becomes a necessity.

We will work with you to achieve a diagnosis for your problem and a plan for the best way to manage it, whether this is treatment from us, rehabilitation exercise for you to undertake or a referral to another specialist.

Neck pain

Neck pain varies from waking up with a crick in your neck to soreness after spending too long looking at a computer screen to the pattern of injures which follow a road traffic accident and are commonly termed “whiplash”.

Whilst the crick in your neck may settle itself without any treatment some problems are longer lasting and require professional help and advice.

Sports Injury

Recovery starts from the moment your injury occurs. We can guide your recovery from early stages of hands on treatment to the final stages of preparation to return to sport. We work closely with local doctors, surgeons and other professionals such as podiatrists to make sure your are given the correct diagnosis and set on the right path. We also work with coaches and trainers to make sure that your return to sport occurs safely and at the right time in your recovery.

Shoulder Problems

Pain in the shoulder can be one of the most debilitating types of pain we deal with in the clinic. If you stop for a moment and think about the number of things you do with your upper limb, almost everything will involve your shoulder joint. The joint is formed between the “ball” of the upper arm bone and the “socket” of the shoulder blade and this may be the description you remember from the biology lessons you had to endure at school. This isn’t in fact a great description of the joint – the ball of the upper arm is only about half a ball and the socket is no more of a socket than if you hold your cupped hand out palm up like you were asking for sweets.

Shoulder pain can take many forms and be present for a wide variety of reasons. Getting the best treatment for your shoulder pain relies on getting an accurate diagnosis and at City Physio you can expect us to take the time to get to the root cause of your problems and we work closely with local shoulder specialists to arrange further investigations if necessary

Hip Problems

Arthritis of the hip affects many people as they age but can often be a cause of hip pain in younger people and there are around 80,000 hip replacement operations undertaken in the UK each year.

Pain on the outside of the hip area, sometimes labelled as bursitis or tendinopathy can have a big impact on quality of life and can be frustratingly resistant to treatment. You can rely on us to use the latest evidence based approaches to treatment to make sure you have the best chance of a speedy recovery.

Post operative

At City Physio we work closely with a number of local consultants to provide care for people undergoing surgery such as joint replacement or ligament reconstruction. Treatment very often starts before surgery to ensure that you are in the best possible shape before the operation to cut recovery times afterwards and to achieve the best outcomes.

Knee Pain

The knee is frequently a source of pain which can range from a ligament strain after a ski trip to over-use injuries whilst training for marathons or the Great South Run. We are able to help you get to the root of your problem and find an approach that provides a long term solution.

Foot and Ankle

A sprained ankle may sound like a painful inconvenience rather than a cause for concern but if you have sustained a sprain, you are more likely to suffer the same injury again than not. Pain around the ankle and foot can be intrusive and limit mobility and make simple pleasures like walking along the seafront a chore. We are on hand to help you recover your mobility and relieve your pain.

Tennis Elbow

Tennis elbow falls into that wide category of medical problems whose name does not really reflect their distribution or cause of onset. Whilst we do indeed see tennis players in the clinic with pain in their elbow, the majority of people we see with pain on the outside of their elbow (the classic site associated with a diagnosis of tennis elbow) have never lifted a tennis racquet in their life.
